Dexter Plaza
Plants plants plants
A plaza with a 90’s hangover, what to do? Our partners on this project are making this space more hospitable to humans with new seating areas. For us the scope was plants only, which was really fun.
We had two main questions - one philosophical and one technical. Philosophically, how much can we contribute to this plaza refresh with planting alone? We are optimistic about this. Our technical questions were about how to create some more volume in the planting with some subtle grading. The main planting area was originally designed as a big ol’ water fountain, but it had lived the previous decade as a planter. On top of that, it’s all over structure (parking garage) so we had soil weight limitations.
We strategically placed foam to create some lift, and planted reeeallly densely. Post install pics coming soon-ish.
